Welcome to Gateshead

Connected to Newcastle by the 7 famous bridges on the Tyne, Gateshead is located on the south side of the river, and the two cities are often considered part of the same metropolitan area.

The town is largely known for its outstanding and innovative architecture including, Sage Gateshead, a centre for music education, performances and conferences, the Baltic centre for contemporary art, and the most famous of them all, Antony Gormley's Angel of the North which greets you as you drive into the town.

It is not just the architecture which is innovative in this town though; it is also the birthplace of many important discoveries and inventions such as Sir Joseph Swans electric light bulb (the first house in the world to be wired for domestic electric light was in Low Fell, Gateshead) and Charles Parsons invention of the steam turbine engine which made cheap and plentiful electricity possible, revolutionising marine transport and naval warfare.

Gateshead is also on the map for its shopping; housing the Metrocentre, the UK’s second largest shopping centre (second only to London's Westfield) and Team Valley retail park as well as having great links to Newcastle so you’ll be able to shop until you drop.

Gateshead is a central hub with amazing transport links including buses, metro’s, trains and cycle links. You can get to Newcastle, the coast, or the countryside within 30 minutes of central Gateshead meaning you’re never far from an amazing day out.

Overall, Gateshead is a vibrant and culturally rich town with plenty to offer visitors and residents alike. Whether you're interested in music, art, shopping, or simply exploring the local area, you'll find plenty to do this dynamic town.

Our Personal Favourites

Our office is based in Gateshead meaning we know the area very well. Below are some of our favourite things to do and see:

Just 10 miles from the city centre is Beamish Museum; a pioneering, living, open air museum which tells the story of life in the North East during the 1820s, 1900s, 1940s and 1950s.They also have one of the best fish and chip shops around - a must try!

Located close to our office is the beautiful Saltwell Park, a traditional Victorian park and winner of Britain's best park in 2005. There are always activities going on but even when there’s not, it is a beautiful place for an afternoon stroll.

Walking along the millennium bridge at night is something not to be missed. Lighting up the Gateshead and Newcastle quaysides it is a prominent feature of the Tyne and a great photo opportunity.. Not only that, there are lots of amazing places to eat, drink and visit within 5 minutes of the bridge.
